Awesome Trip to Fremantle Maritime Museum!

On Tuesday the 17th of March Year 6 Green from Trinity College Junior School went to the Maritime Museum in Fremantle. Three parents came along and helped. Mrs Rainer, Mrs Smith and Mr Fong. It started off by all of us getting a tour of a famous Australian submarine The SS Ovens. The submarine was black and 90 metres long. Inside the submarine it was long, tight, cramped and smelly. To get into different rooms of the submarine you had to climb through a small hatch.

The bunks in which you would've slept in were all cramped together. Our tour guide Ron told us lots of facts about the submarine. Then we moved out of the sub to explore the museum. There were lots of different boats to see.

There was the Australia II, the Parry Endeavour and a special exhibition called The Last Gentleman of War. This particular exhibition was there because this year is the century of The ANZAC landing at Gallipoli. The Last Gentleman of War Exhibition documented the battle between HMS Emden and HMAS Sydney, which was Australia's first naval victory. It was called the Last Gentleman of War because of the fact that the captains of the ship didn’t kill their captures but instead showed them great respect.

We had a great day.

Quality reading in 6 Green!

In class we have been exploring, "What makes a great reader?"
For homework I had the boys record themselves reading on their devices. Then in groups the boys listened to each others recordings and then gave constructive feedback about what they heard.
Posters were then created in groups answering the question. What makes a great reader?
Each member of the class has created a couple of personal targets to help their reading improve further.
Please discuss these targets with your son, and I encourage you to work on these with your son during home reading every night.

Camp at Dwellingup

Exhausting, fun, insightful, different! These were just some adjectives used to describe Camp this year!

We have all returned from a brilliant Leadership Retreat at Camp Kelly in Dwellingup. The boys all behaved with enthusiasm and open mindedness in all activities they faced. It certainly was a full program with the boys exposed to a broad spectrum of activities with the themes of leadership, good decision making and mateship underpinning all activities

I feel the boys have really been exposed to some rich experiences that will set them up for the coming years.

Please have a chat with your son about what he has learnt from his experiences
